Family Roots - Orchid

In 2022, I had to throw together a portfolio for the first time in my life as I frantically applied to UCSC. I grew frustrated with my work as I spent the mornings in my garden. I felt like nothing I made was anywhere close to as beautiful as the nature that surrounded me.

I began to experiment, combining the two, with a background knowledge in urban architecture related to hydroponic systems, I embarked on a journey to create species-specific, aesthetically pleasing, and environmentally friendly displays that have a story behind each design. The piece is designed to accommodate the needs of a singular orchid plant. While successful with both subspecies of orchid, I have found more personal success with those of the Cattleya variety.

Family Roots was displayed at the Sesnon Gallery in 2024.

Although it is currently unavailable, similar pieces can be commissioned. Vases come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and faces can be customized or even changed into another shape. Orchids also come in a variety of colors and sizes.
